Filed under: There and Back Again
Unless you are heading to Seattle, I don’t think it is a very heartening sign to have the first four days of your vacation be cold and rainy and generally miserable. So you can imagine my disappointment last Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday when my warm, beachy, cruisey, Mexican vacation began under gray clouds and lots of wind.
Admittedly, the first two days involved no cruise boat, but consisted entirely of Andrea, Camille & I making our way down to San Diego.
There was a lot of this.

And then there was a little of this.

By the time we arrived in San Diego (to more rain), I had exhausted most of my photographic appreciation of the clouds and was ready for some sun. My cousins Chris & Dianne very generously put us up for the night and dropped the lot of us off at the port the next morning. It was still gray and miserable.

Even so, we were excited and even a bit giddy, despite the rain, about our cruising adventure! See?
(*All the single ladies! All the single ladies!)
A few hours later we still were docked in San Diego, waiting for everyone to board and the ship to do whatever ship-things they must do before we could take off. We had lunch and discovered the hot chocolate, which became my absolute favorite thing on-board. (Nestle dark, who would have thought?)
The next morning I was really hoping for some warm and sunshine. After 3 days of rain and cold it was time for a little sunbathing, right? Well….it was sunny-ish, but freezing. We tried to deck-lounge anyway, with little success.

Behold, the Salt Lake synchronized swimming team! Oh wait, no. We’re just hooded and freezing, hot chocolate in-hand. I spent most of the day alternating between the gym, the hot tub, and a good book (or 6). Even wrapped in blankets and hoodies it was nice just to be away from all the stresses of school and work and the constant attention whore: the internet and my phone. But, in my heart of hearts I still wanted some warm sunshine. You can imagine my delight when I woke the next morning to see this. Admittedly, I may have teared up a little. Sunshine! Blue sky! And 75-degree weather!

Ooh, how nerve-racking to have all that crappy weather at the start. Glad the sun showed up! The cruise looks so fun.
