I’m back from Washington DC and I have several hundred photos and stories to sort through.

I survived a bout of food poisoning (although not without the humiliating Incident Where I Threw Up In Public!) and am currently fighting off a pretty nasty cold.

Tomorrow afternoon I am heading to San Francisco for a girly weekend in my favorite town with a few of my favorite people.

Overall?  Life is good.  Except for the cold.

Yes.  I travel a lot.  I don’t have pets, or plants, or a child, or a husband to depend on me or really miss my presence.  So I travel, and I love it.  I am working some temp jobs at the moment to pay the bills.  It’s not a career–in fact, it hardly deserves being mentioned except for the fact that it helps finance my travel habit.  In the last week or two I have received a bit of guff from friends and acquaintances regarding my traveling schedule, I know they are probably just jealous, but the criticism and judgement doesn’t help.  You have a family or a lover or a dog.  You have a career with benefits and a 401k.  You have a brood of kiddies or some other enormous goal you are currently spending massive amounts of time, energy and money to accomplish.  For that, I applaud you.  I have none of those things, regardless of how much I may want one or more of them.  Instead of staying home brooding about who or what I don’t have, I choose instead to spend my time seeing the world.  (Yes, actually, I do escape my problems via airplane.  What’s it to you?) Don’t judge.  Mmkay?

I’ll be back next week with stories from sea to shining sea–except I didn’t actually see the sea while on the east coast…  Whatever, it was a nice metaphor.

Yeay for traveling! I can’t wait to hear the stories.

And, don’t listen to those people with the judgement, they are just jealous. Traveling is awesome and a great way to meet people (new friends maybe?).

Welcome back! I see no reason for anyone to judge… the traveling sounds awesome to me! Sorry about the food poisoning, though. I’ve thrown up in public before, and you are right: Not Fun.

I am so on your side in this – most people, let’s face it, CHOOSE to do the spouse-kids-mortgage thing. It’s not some divinely ordained structure that they have no say in. So when they start criticising OUR choices or realities on the basis of their own realities, I feel like throwing something at them.

Pshaw! That’s my opinion! You should definitely travel & have fun & see stuff! That is awesome! I hope your next trip is awesome. With NO barfing included. ;)

I love reading about your traveling adventures and see your photos! They’re just jealous that they’re tied down and can’t hop across the country like you do. I hope you get feeling better soon!

DC and San Fran are 2 of my favorite cities. When you’re in San Fran, eat lots of sour dough bread and Ghirardeli chocolate for me! And buy some sexy shoes at Union Square!!

Some people buy lots of gadgets, some people go to lots of concerts, some buy large houses with two cars and a family, some buy a grove of guitars, and some people travel. What we do with our excess money is nobody else’s business. People can get so uncomfortable when they see someone doing something different than they do. I think that’s because, deep down, we are all a bunch of egocentric twats. Enjoy your wanderlust!

Never, ever EVER stop traveling. Even once you do get a kid/pet/husband. I forbid it. So there.

And feel better!

Sorry about the sickness. Public vomiting is my least favorite kind. Were I in your shoes, I’d travel all the time. In fact, I still do crank in quite a bit even with the four kiddos. Just got back last night from S. Florida. Oh yes.

If you saw any water while you were in DC, it counts as the ocean. I live here and I haven’t seen the actual ocean in… a couple of years. Sad, maybe, but eh. It’s no Pacific.

Do what you love. Period. If the world can’t take it, laugh at them. At least you are happy.

When people judge, they are often merely expressing their own insecurities. Shrug them off and enjoy your life!

Atta girl.

Bloom where you are planted. Or not planted. My own metaphor is way off . . .

seriously do not let anyone guffaw at your traveling. if i had the means to do it, i’d be on a plane every weekend. seriously have so much fun in san fransico and yay for so much fun travels and can’t wait to see some pictures!

You know what, don’t let others make you feel bad for doing what you enjoy doing. It is your choice what you spend your money on, just as it is theirs to spend theirs on a house or kids or whatever. I love traveling too and until I settle down with a husband and want to buy a house and have kids, I will also try to do as much traveling as I can.

See, I have this strange thing where I feel lame because I WISH I were the type of person who loved to hop on a plane and see sights. Travel is fun and awesome but it’s also complicated, difficult and uncomfortable– but that’s why it’s GREAT! It puts you outside your comfort zone and challenges you and broadens your horizons. I have the pets/significant other and limited financial resources so I can’t travel much, but I still weirdly wish I were the kind of person who wants to travel all the time. I try to convince myself that I am, but I am not all that adventuresome, hate flying, and like my boring little home. So I guess what I’m saying is, everyone is a weirdo. Enjoy your travel!

I am jealous, but you wear cute shoes so I am over it now.

Don’t let the haters bring you down. They’re just jealous of your travel. (really, they are!)

Also, thanks for the super sweet text you sent me yesterday. You’re a good lady Miss Heidikins!
