Aftermath
2009 December 28, 5:01 am
  • I didn’t hang stockings.
  • I didn’t make a gingerbread house.
  • I didn’t go caroling.
  • I didn’t send Christmas cards.
  • I didn’t read The Night Before Christmas (although I could probably recite it from memory right now if I had the urge).
  • I did decorate a Christmas tree that I absolutely adore.
  • I did enjoy shopping for my very small list of persons to receive Christmas presents (4 people total, seriously.)
  • I did make two apple pies, one tasted better than the other.
  • I did receive a lovely assortment of Christmas cards that are stuck haphazardly on my refrigerator.
  • I did open a present on Christmas morning–for the first time since I was 18.
  • I did get a handful of thoughtful gifts that I love, but I feel funny raving about them right now…I guess I’m all anti-consumeristic at the moment.
  • Mmm, that mood has passed–I got my first iPod!!  It’s red and shiny and small and cute and fancy!!  And have worn those tell-tale white earplugs as accessories pretty much nonstop ever since.
  • I also received some sparkly somethings from The Boy Who Has Yet To Be Named–don’t freak out, they go in my ears–I adore them.
  • I did brave the mall to celebrate Boxing Day and get myself a long coveted bottle of perfume (Dolce & Gabanna, Light Blue)
  • I did have about 14 lime rickies, made by either myself, my brother or my dad–this is one of my favorite family Christmas traditions–and for the record, they are absolute heaven stirred up with a bit of grenadine.
  • I did spend an inordinate amount of time dragging The Boy Who Has Yet To Be Named around to various family functions–and he is still calling, so I take this as a good sign.
  • I did have one minor meltdown regarding said family functions.  Ok, regarding one family function.  One meltdown for one family shindig out of six isn’t too shabby, really.

How about you?  How was your Christmas?  Any meltdowns?

Sounds like a great Christmas all around. Mine was pretty good too. Hope you enjoy your iPod.

sounds pretty good – only one meltdown? I have four kids six and under and we’re flying them to Seattle for my youngest sisters wedding in three days. That’s when the meltdowns will occur. Our nuclear family Christmas was awesome.

I kind of just fell in love with your style of recapping Christmas. I had a “best of” post planned for today, but plans changed and it will come out tomorrow instead. Can’t wait to continue hearing good things about The Boy Who Has Yet to Be Named … I’m liking the sounds of it!

I didn’t receive any gifts.
I didn’t give any gifts.
I didn’t receive any cards.
I didn’t send any cards.
I didn’t get to see any of my family or old friends.
I didn’t get to see the girl I’m crushing on (the crush has more or less passed now anyway.)
I didn’t get to go to either of the parties I was invited to.

I DID get to see crush girl a few days before Xmas and take lots of excellent pictures of her (see: a few of my latest Facebook posts)
I DID get to see the incomparable Sra last Wednesday, and had the pleasure of her company all day.
I DID have to work both Xmas eve and Xmas day. And yes, I was very grumpy both times.

All in all, probably the worst Christmas I’ve ever had. I guess that’s my penance for turning Atheist this past year? I dunno.

We didn’t decorate the tree.
We didn’t put up lights.
I did bake (and eat) a lot of cookies.
I gave and received some lovely gifts.
I choked back tears at Christmas dinner when my dad wished for a grandbaby.

I will preface this comment with, it was a wonderful Christmas…even though my family canceled it three times before the day, gotta love the family drama.
We did buy a tiny real tree, about 1.5 feet in height, in it’s own pot with dirt and we will be watching it grow all year. I got a MICHE bag!!!!! AWESOME greatest invention of all time (to me anyway) my honey did a great job picking it out and picking out two shells for it, I also got a new MP3 player (sorry not an iPod cuz my last one sucks and doesn’t work well with the free library audiobooks)but it is so much better than any other MP3 player I have had in the past. I got many gift cards so I can go shopping for new jeans (Nordstrom’s is the only true place for great jeans) and some dinner gift cards, free food! Awesome! and lots and lots of lotion (I think I’m set for the year.

Had dinner with my small family, went to my honey’s family for after Christmas day breakfast feast and dinner. Sunday was my birthday, and we spent that with my extended family for a late Christmas party, then spent the evening relaxing, cuddling, and watching t.v./movies…..great weekend! Although no Christmas cards went out from me this year (working at the Post Office kind of puts you off to sending things through the mail).
