It’s Springtime for my feet!

The calendar says it is officially Spring. The weather channel says something quite different (see: 3 snow-storms last week). Whatever the situation, I feel like it is high time for some springy footwear around here. I haven’t purchased shoes in a while due to tricky finances. However, one of the benefits of being a shoe whore owning 178 pairs of shoes is that every season change brings a pile of almost forgotten beauties that are begging to be worn. So, from the heidikins shoe archives, I bring you my Spring picks.

gold-charles-david-wedge

I purchased these metallic gold Charles by Charles David wedges several years ago on an absolute whim.  I never dreamed I’d wear metallic gold shoes.  However, they have become a summer staple and I can’t wait to strap them on and kick up my heels!

red-white-strappy-sandal

In my opinion, nothing says “almost summer” like red, strappy sandals.  This sweet pair will be worn with a white Swiss-dot dress and a woven straw bag.  Or a denim pencil skirt, crisp button-up and sunglasses.

black-sequin-heels

These may be a bit fancy–but I absolutely love them.  Paired with a cobalt-blue dress and bright pink scarf, they will bring just the right touch of toughness.  Despite the ridiculously high heel (5 inches), I can actually run in these beauties!

pink-snakeskin-suede-heels

I am pretty sure these came from Nordstrom Rack, and I love how they look with a charcoal grey skirt, or long, dark jeans.  In my opinion, the snakeskin and suede combo makes the dusty-rose color a little easier to swallow, particularly if the rest of the ensemble is clean and streamlined.  Perhaps I’ll try these with a blue stripey dress this year, thoughts?

yellow-patent-peep-toe

This may (or may not) surprise you, but I actually have four or five pairs of yellow shoes.  This sunny shade somehow seems to go with almost anything, and there’s no better pick-me up than yellow shoes.  This week, I will wear these in honor of Miss Daisy, my beloved yellow VW bug who was crunched to death last year.

scuba-finsMy most recently acquired footwear is a pair of SCUBA fins. I plan on wearing them with a bright, beachy sundress and a giant handbag….or, rather, a swimming suit, wet suit, and SCUBA mask.

Handsome has been SCUBA certified for a couple of years, and last week he surprised me with SCUBA lessons. In less than a month I will be officially licensed and certified to swim with sharks.

[Insert minor panic attack regarding sharks, shark-infested waters, heidikins-shaped shark food, and all other things remotely related to seeing, swimming with, or being eaten by sharks.  /end suspend panic attack]

Not that I have any intention of swimming with actual sharks anytime soon–sharks not being indigenous to the desert, you know. At this point I have only been to a single, orientation class–but I am really excited about the classes, learning more about diving, studying up on fishies and underwater, um, stuff. Handsome & I haven’t planned a SCUBA trip yet, but I am hoping that sometime in the next couple of months I’ll be heading somewhere tropical and beachy with a suitcase of strappy sandals, flip-flops, and SCUBA fins.  I’ll also be keeping my eyes akimbo for “No Sharks Allowed” signage on the beach.  Any suggestions?

Love the first wedges! I saw a similar pair in ATL yesterday and almost bought them. Maybe I will go back….

You shouldn’t worry about sharks. Scuba divers are almost never the target of sharks. It’s more dangerous to drive to the dive site than to dive ;)

Wow, I love those gold shoes. Oh, who am I kidding. . . I love them ALL.

With snow on the ground here, too, I thank you for the dose of color and of spring. I can practically feel the warmth of the summer sun on my face.

See, this is why I hate being so tall! I miss out on so many cute shoes!

Thankfully flats are in and cute, as well.

I bought my first pair of three inch heels last week. They look great as long as I just stand still. As soon as I start to walk I resemble some kind of giraffe. How you can run in 5 inch heels I’ll never know, you are my hero.

Dear Heidi:

Thanks so much for bringing a welcome chuckle. One of my readers sent me your blog link. . . and you brought a smile with your. . .sexy, sexy, hot, sexy. . . scuba fins? Welcome to the very cool underwater world shoe vixen. You have made a friend in me, and perhaps I can help with the cost of all of this very expensive scuba equipment. . . . you must protect the stilletto budget.

Go on my new SCUBA sister.

I love the yellow wedges. They’re perfect and I do think yellow is a great neutral:)

I absolutely HAVE to have the black sequined shoes. They. Are. Calling. My. Name.

I just bought my first pair of black patent ballet flats from Tarjay. Wish me luck, as I’ve boycotted these babies the minute they came out.

I just thought I’d share that I scuba certified in high school, and went to the cayman islands with my parents, and saw 2 9-foot sharks 30 feet below me and panicked. Lucky for me it turned out they were only nurse sharks, which apparently means they’re no big deal? Anyway, they totally didn’t care about us, and now I can live to tell the tale that I’ve swum (sp?) with sharks….think of it as an opportunity?

I know it’s sacrilege but I just have the worst time finding shoes that I like enough to actually spend the money on. That red strappy pair is absolutely wonderful though! Love!

Shoes make me so happy! I am desperate for the weather to warm up so I can bust out my Spring/Summer shoes!

Comment by Erin

Boy you weren’t kidding when you said you had a shoe collection. Boy howdy! Prepare some waivers for us to sign stating that we won’t steal any and then show us how you store 178 pairs of shoes, please.

Comment by Becky

Hey, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the black sequin heels. I’ve looked all over for some but can’t find any! :( Does anyone know where I might find some? Or where I could buy some online? Thanks

Oh! E-mail me back at MsSpringsteen@yahoo.com

I absolutely ADORE the red strappy heels that you were going to wear with a swiss dot dress! Who makes them? I would love to wear these for my wedding!!! Thanks so much!

Comment by Tracey

Where or where did you find those yellow patent peep-toe wedges? I need them for my outdoor navy blue & yellow wedding in 3 months, I can not find ANY yellow heels/pumps for a reasonable price (around $50) this time of the year! Danke
