The lovely and talented Julie at Moments of Perfect Clarity tagged me with this meme.  If my last post is any indication, I am having a bit of a rough time coming up with new, non-depressing material.  I officially tag anyone who would like to participate, and give full permission to change this as you see fit.  In other news, my latest post is up today at Very Bookish.

———-          ———-          ———-

What is your current obsession? Cooking. I started a recipe blog several months ago and on weekends I tend to cook a half-dozen different things. I spend the entire week hunting down and printing out new recipes to try. Admittedly, I am embarrassingly behind. Last weekend I attempted bread for the first time….and it was a miserable failure.  It should be noted, baking whilst emotional is almost always going to end in failure.

Do you nap a lot? I have recently discovered the deliciousness of a Sunday afternoon nap.

Who was the last person you hugged? A high school kid who was having a REALLY hard day. I’m so glad I don’t have that kind of drama anymore. In fact, I don’t know if I ever had that kind of drama.  (Don’t let me fool you–I have a well established puddle/lake/sea of my own drama to deal with.)

What was the last thing you bought? A staple gun & staples. Next project: recovering a $5 thrift-store ottoman with bargain-priced creamy suede. I’m excited and maybe a little scared.

What are you listening to right now? The Secondhand Serenade CD

What is your favorite weather? Sunny, warm, jacket-at-night weather with no humidity. Like Saturday. Saturday was beautiful! Today? It’s blizzardy with 6 inches of fresh snow.  Sigh. That’s Utah “Spring” for you.

What’s on your bedside table? Haha! Speaking of bedside tables I now have one! I found an old sewing-machine table at a thrift store that had already been gutted. I sanded it down and cleaned it up and it has now replaced the stack of cardboard boxes I have been using for, um, four years. I have big plans to paint or stain it a fancy color…however the naked, unstained wood that I discovered after a LOT of elbow grease matches the ash-blonde wood in my bedroom, so I am leaving it as is. At the moment, I have a shiny lamp, a small vase of daisies, a pretty mug holding a couple of pens, a notebook and a stack of books; The Fountainhead, The Secret Life of Bees, The African Queen, Dante’s Inferno). And an alarm clock I have had since my freshman year of college and while it “fit” on a cardboard box, it doesn’t look so great with “real furniture”…I am thinking I need a more aesthetic alarm.

Say something to the person/s who tagged you. Hi Julie! I have a fairly serious case of creativity-envy for your ideas, your (now famous) kitchen, your studio…the works. I also envy your cameras. Yes, all of them. Swoon!

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be? ….wow, that’s a question. I haven’t really been anywhere yet, but I’d love a place someplace tropical—like Belize, or Thailand. I’d also love something in Europe—France or Italy or Greece. Oooh, or Hong Kong. Or Namibia. Clearly, I need to get out more. How would YOU answer this question?

Favorite vacation spot? Of places I have been, I think the North Shore of Oahu is amazingly quiet with a minimum amount of tourists milling about and is absolutely gorgeous. I also am forever in-love with San Francisco, California.

Name the things you can’t live without. The Internets, 500-count sheets, fantastic shoes, an enormous stash of good books.

What would you like to have in your hands right now? A piece of furniture to refinish…I think I’m hooked.  Ooh, or a check for 7 million dollars.

What would you like to get rid of? Credit card debt–which, it should be noted, would be completely wiped away with that previously mentioned 7 million dollar check.  I’m just sayin’.

If you could be anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go? Istanbul, to see the Hagia Sophia.

What did you want to become as a child? A stunt-woman or a fighter pilot.

What do you like better, e-mail or telephone calls? Depends on who and what for…most of the time e-mail is fine. But those days when I need to laugh, or cry, or vent? Then I need a good friend, either on the phone or in person.

What do you do when you get time alone? Read, think, plan, write, wander aimlessly through my favorite bits of town, imagining a completely different life. It’s not that I’m unhappy with my own life, I just can never shake the feeling of “what if…”

Oooh, I love that you’re recovering an ottoman. The local needle shop offers a class in furniture upholstery. I might need to check it out!

I love this list! I may just have to do this too as I am also suffering to come up with non-mopey blog content!

You have Dante’s Inferno on your nightstand??? Do tell!?!

The Salt Lake Community Education program offers an upholstery course, and the first level teaches you about doing an ottoman. The second level, you can bring anything you want to cover. I have these awesome chairs that badly need recovering, and I’m totally tempted to take this class, but it’s a wee bit pricey considering that I’m about to move and stop working and take on loans, and I really shouldn’t blow so much money. But I really want to.

I’ve always wanted to own a staple gun, but I know that it wouldn’t come to any good. Post pics when you finish your project pretty please?

Your bread baking attempt while being emotional reminded me of the book and movie Like Water For Chocolate. Have you read it? There is a scene where the girl is crying while baking a cake. Her tears fall into the batter. Later when people eat the cake, it effects them in strange, magical ways.

Hmmm… perhaps I shall particpate. Note: this is the first attempt at bread after all those Cooking with Cozy expeditions? You should be ashamed.

I am a sucker for recipe blogs but for some reason I can’t get the link to open. =(
