Shock & Awe
2009 February 22, 12:26 am

Shock: It’s official.  My x-boyfriend is now my cousin.

Awe: This new status as “family” has not changed my feelings towards him.  He’s still an ASS.

Shock: The Red Neck Mafia has not come knocking yet, demanding I join their white-trashy ranks.

Awe: As of yet, I have not been judged for this de-evolution (see: dating relatives)

*****     *****     *****     *****     *****

Shock: There really is someone for everyone.  Seriously.  (For the record, we’re not talking about related-x-boyfriend’s anymore.)

Awe: Attending my Dad’s wedding this weekend has been one of the highlights of my adult life.

Shock: There was no cake, no fancy dress, no photographer/videographer/choreographer, no guest book, no party favors, nothing ostentatious and nothing over-the-top.

Awe: The reminder that weddings truly are about two people choosing to spend the rest of their lives together.

Shock: That I needed the reminder.

Awe: I don’t think I’ve ever seen my Dad or Glinda so happy.

Shock: That all of my siblings managed to make it to the actual ceremony; airport issues (at the absolute last minute), having to change clothes (from jeans into a suit, see “airport issues”), getting lost, delays, introductions.

Awe: Being able to get a family picture, with most of the nieces & nephews smiling/not screaming.  Seriously, this feat alone is monumental.

This is a sweet post (except for the asshole ex, obviously). I’m so happy for your dad!

Shock: You wrote about your father’s and cousin’s weddings in the same blog post!

Awe: The reminder that weddings truly are about two people choosing to spend the rest of their lives together. AMEN!
