Most years I–and the rest of the planet–make a resolution to either lose a few pounds, or turn jiggly places on my arse into non-jiggly places, or whatever. Most of the time I don’t keep this resolution past Valentines Day, what with the chocolate and all. In fact, I don’t ever make New Year’s Resolutions until Chinese New Year. I figure if I can’t keep a resolution throughout the month of January I should just cross it off the list right away. And here we are–checks calendar–January 12 and I still am on a diet. And I’ve lost 7 pounds this week. This might just stick.
Any diet is tricky, I understand that. I am not exactly a “diet” person. I subscribe to the “eat your veggies and run around the block” school of nutrition & health–however it is not really working out so well for me this year. So, diet it is. As a little Monday Treat for you, I present my ABC’s of Dieting, also known as “How long can I possibly last without thinking about chocolate.”*
A– “Allowed food” lists are frustratingly narrow-minded. And limiting! Damn lists.
B– Brownie Count (1)…but it was very small.
C– Cookies…I am craving gingersnaps! Ok, off the sweets. Celery is delicious…cough.
D– Diet’s are hard, really hard! I certainly hope I don’t have to do one of these again anytime soon.
E– Eggs are allowed…I don’t particularly like eggs, except with salsa. Salsa is not allowed–yet.
F– Fast Food is right out, good thing I don’t like fast food.
G– Gouda Cheese, I love it! I also love that I can eat as much as I want! Yay for “allowed food” lists!
H– heidikins is not in-love with the fact that she’s on a diet–or the fact that she’s speaking in third person–but she does love that her diet includes cheese and (some form of) chocolate.
I– Ice-cream is not allowed on diets….sigh.
J– Jell-o, fat-free, sugar-free chocolate pudding is something I try and eat two or three times per day.
K– Khocolate. Fat-free, sugar-free chocolate Jell-o pudding is Khocolate. It’s a fake. Like Krab.
L– Lb’s left to lose: 23-27, depending on how happy I am with the way my pants fit after losing 23 will dictation whether or not I try to lose the others.
M– Making up recipes is part of any diet, most meals are a hodge-podge of the “approved foods” in the fridge. It’s been kind of fun.
N– No carbs, No sugar, No fun.
O– Oscar Meyer Center-Cut Bacon, ohmylaws, it’s delicious!
P– Pasta is perhaps the thing I miss the most, and going out to Italian restaurants and not ordering pasta is practically a crime. Balsamic glaze on everything else almost makes up for not having pasta.
Q– Quiche is my breakfast staple, somehow the veggies & extra doses of ground pepper mask the eggs.
R– Radicchio is not tasty. In fact, it’s quite bitter. Vegetable FAIL.
S– Salads the size of my face can get tiring, shockingly. Thank heaven’s for cheese.
T– Tomato sauce with extra veggies is a sad substitute for spaghetti…but it will do in a pinch. Lots of garlic helps. Pastaholics (or Pastafarians) without the ability to consume pasta by the bucket-load is very sad.
U– Um…..I still want some chocolate.
V– Vegetables are the basis of my diet, I like veggies, really, I do. But not as much as I like chocolate.
W– Would it surprise you to know that making up diet-y things about “W”, “X” and “Y” is a bit difficult? No? Good. (If I were doing a Weight Watchers diet it would make sense to state that here…I’m not trying Weight Watchers, hence no mention.)
X– XL-to-me size pants (also known as “largest size pants I’ve ever worn”) will shortly be downsized to regular-to-me size pants. Excellent!
Y– You know what I’d like right now? Another brownie. Not on the “approved food” list.
Z– Zucchini can be masked to substitute for all sorts of different foods, but not chocolate.
*New record: 45 seconds lapsed before fantasizing dreaming thinking about chocolate.

I have your same chocolate problem. The difference is that your addiction didn’t dictate your profession. Mine did.
Comment by Dani 2009 January 12 @ 3:15 amSo thanks for this post. It’s five am and I’m about to go grab some chocolate ice cream. Because I’m not dieting.
7 pounds in one week? Really? Maybe I should try this..
Hahaha -too funny. And I can’t believe you’ve lost so much weight so quickly. I thought you looked tiny when I saw you; I can’t imagine you 25 pounds smaller.
Comment by Janssen 2009 January 12 @ 7:30 am7 pounds! But you’re tiny! Is that even healthy??
Comment by Jess 2009 January 12 @ 7:37 amI need to be on the diet you’re on. I am doing WeightWatchers and I lost 1.8 pounds this week. What are you doing?
BTW, I really don’t think you need to lose any weight, much less 20+ pounds.
Comment by Lou 2009 January 12 @ 7:59 amOk, I had to comment after reading the lbs left to lose. Are you kidding?? There is no way you need to lose nearly 30lbs total! NO WAY.
Comment by Operation Pink Herring 2009 January 12 @ 8:12 amDiet? I thought you looked smokin’ hot in your cute dress yesterday! I’m all about getting healthier, but seriously, you look really cute and I don’t think you need to lose a pound.
Comment by Lynze Wardle 2009 January 12 @ 9:32 amI think this sounds like starvation and your post made me hungry.
And now I am thinking of chocolate as well.
Comment by Naomi 2009 January 12 @ 10:02 amFYI, if you feel like you’re not doing well at this diet, so far I’ve lost 10 pounds on the calorie-counting, it’s okay to have one small piece of chocolate a day diet. It’s kind of great so far, although I’ve been a little stuck at the 10 pounds lost mark. I do eat a lot of salsa, though, because it’s tasty and low in calories and fat, and a better choice than ketchup.
Comment by Noelle 2009 January 12 @ 11:24 amI seriously hear you. I’m not very good with terribly structured diets, so I try to just attack things that I know are my weaknesses, and chocolate and other sweets are on that list. So, I can’t say I’ve cut out sugar completely, but I’ve been denying myself most of it, and it makes me very sad. But I’m down 1.5 pounds since last week, so I guess it’s a good start.
Exercise regimen is starting this week too, so that should help.
Comment by Sra 2009 January 12 @ 11:37 amUm, I think if you lost even 20 lbs. you might blow right over! From the pictures you’ve posted you look lovely and very healthy. What diet ARE you doing? I ‘d be interested to know–especially if it works so well.
Comment by Megs 2009 January 12 @ 12:55 pmnice job on sticking to the diet, i always end up cheating here and there. however i think i am doing better on portion sizes.
but whoever brought brownies to the office needs to be smacked, i just can turn those down, haha.
Comment by katelin 2009 January 12 @ 4:51 pmSee? I don’t believe in dieting. I believe in being hungry now so I can have that cookie later.
(Wait. Is that dieting?
)
Comment by Gwen 2009 January 13 @ 9:54 amYou did it! A good comment with every letter! Very impressive!
Comment by Jen 2009 January 13 @ 12:57 pmNice, you look like you’re doing a much better job than me on a diet. I’ve had to tell myself that even if my diets only last a few days, that’s a few days a week of not eating crap, and it can’t be bad for me!
Comment by Allie 2009 January 13 @ 5:06 pmWould you believe I only found out last year that carbs make you put on weight? It was so disappointing, I felt like a child again who has just learned that some things are bad for you, which usually turn out to be the best things. And I had been happily eating bread for years instead of chocolate biscuits, thinking I was so healthy and about to drop several digits off my weight.
Um…. K is my favorite. I think I am going to put it on a throw pillow, and then throw it at you.
Comment by Miss Erika 2009 January 14 @ 11:02 amI’m pretty surprised, too, that you want to lose that much weight and that your pants are an XL? That can’t be right. Either that or they are XL from stores that run small. I mean, look, there you are standing next to Hola Isabel in the post below and you two are pretty much the same size. Also, if YOU wear an XL, then I must wear an…XXXXXL. *sobs*
NOT that I’m picking on you for trying to lose weight! Hey, it’s how you feel about yourself, so long as you are healthy.
Anyhoo, I’m trying something new myself in an effort to slim down: raw food. Breakfast today was raw mixed nuts, dried apricots, and an apple. Surprisingly I’m not hungry and I don’t feel deprived. Yet.
Comment by Chiada 2009 January 14 @ 12:52 pmhey keep going! got something over on my blog for you come check it out!
