I am generally the type who is ok with the signs of aging without resulting to massive plastic surgery. I think that by staying fit, eating healthy and learning to be ok with my own body will keep me happy and content. A few stray gray/white hairs, a few saggy bits and a few wrinkles are going to be ok. At this point–the ripe old age of 25–I don’t really buy into the Botox and plastic surgery thing. However, while I was still a minor I had some serious work done. On my teeth.
My smile is the most expensive thing about me. Two grueling years of braces–which came off the day I graduated from high school–having my wisdom teeth pulled, anesthesia to have my wisdom teeth pulled, yearly cleanings and check-ups…it’s exhausting to even think about! I’ve done a little math and by my (un)official estimation my smile is worth at least $7,500. Seventy-five-hundred dollars! And this is before crazy-inflation or jacked-up prices. Seventy-five-hundred-dollars. That’s most of a Smart Car!
Dentists. My childhood dentist was my next-door neighbor, Dr. Ed. He changed the tires on my bike, taught me how to use a power drill, let me shoot his bow-and-arrow and even caught the snake that was hiding out in our woodpile. Dr. Ed is awesome. With my new job I have new insurance and Dr. Ed is no longer in my network. This is considerably less awesome. Before I could get a much needed teeth cleaning I needed to track down a new dentist. Luckily, I happen to know a dentist who just opened up his practice and is looking for new patients.
Murray Park Dental is my new dentist office and it is all sorts of fancy inside. I’m a little fuzzy on the details, but something about all-digital, super-high-tech dentist stuff. From what I understand, the office is like the International iPhone of dentists offices. Now, this is where it gets interesting. Some of my readers will recognize my dentist, he used to make regular appearances on this blog, although not as my dentist. Is that a little weird? Eh, not really. We’re friends. He knows how to fix teeth. At times I need my teeth fixed. Dr. Adam McLachlan (previously known as Berkley) will fix my teeth. And you should also let him fix your teeth. Seriously, I went in to have a cavity filled and he fixed me right up without shots and without me feeling a thing. It really is safe to say that I am too much of a wuss to survive having a cavity filled without major anesthesia, and possibly a pony. However Dr. Mac and his shiny office managed to patch my teeth without so much as a flinch on my part. Easy-peasy.
While I was in his chair, I asked Dr. Mac what his policy was for fixing bike tires, teaching archery and catching creep-crawly critters. Sadly, it looks like he will be sticking strictly to teeth, which I suppose is fine because everything I need to know about power tools I learned from Dr. Ed. But, when it comes to teeth fixery, which hopefully will include some whitening sometime soon, Dr. Mac is the guy to call.
What does this mean for you? If you live in the general Salt Lake area you need to call Dr. Mac, make an appointment, and let him work his magic. Check out Murray Park Dental and tell him heidikins sent you, maybe he’ll hook you up with a pony.

Comment by Margarita 2008 December 17 @ 7:44 amI had the most horrifying dental experiences as a child growing up in SE Asia. So I’m always amazed that my children *love* the dentist and beg to go.
And …. oh to be 25!
Comment by Gwen 2008 December 17 @ 7:47 amThis is funny timing, because today is the day that I tallied up my doctor’s visits from 2008. The number was shocking. To me, at least. But my smile is cheap. I’ve never had braces and I still have my wisdom teeth.
Comment by Jess 2008 December 17 @ 9:54 amI’m totally prepared to get a little nip tuck when I hit my 50′s or so. The key is to not overdo anything.
