Do you remember that scene from Clueless where Cher is trying to get dressed in the morning? She is scrolling through thousands of items of clothes on her computer? Plain mini skirts, cropped sweater vest, thigh-highs and chunky mary janes, ya know, her standard outfit. Do you remember wishing you a) had that many clothes and b) had the fancy computer program to play with and then c) the ever-so-awesome rotating closet? (Please bless that someone other than myself felt this way, or I’ll be a little embarrassed right now.) Well, I’ve found the next best thing. Tragically, the actual clothes are not hanging in my closet, but I’ve found the Internets version of Cher’s closet, without so many babydoll T-shirts and thigh-highs. I have newly become addicted to Polyvore.com, Janet introduced me in this post, and I’ve been obsessing ever since. Seriously? It’s a MUCH better time waster than Facebook, and they have hundreds of pages of shoes to browse through, and then you can choose outfits for those shoes. Hello. I’m in love. (Coincidentally, they also have hundreds of pages of bags and jewelry and clothes, but I always start an outfit at the feet and work my way up. It’s just my thing.)
I spent some good, quality time with Polyvore yesterday, and have decided that I want them to hire me to play on their site for 10 hours a day. I’ll put in overtime, and I won’t complain. I’m a giver like that. I made several different “sets” (their word for a published group of items that, hypothetically, should go together) yesterday, but this one is probably my favorite. And I want it, all of it, right now.

I tell you, I’m a woman obsessed. The shoes! The bag! The idea of wearing a fancy-schmancy evening dress to work! I hope your Friday is really slow, and I hope you find something to drool over. Now clickity-click-click over there right now and let me know what you find! We can by PV friends! It will be awesome! And instead of hearing what kind of coffee you order or that you’re stuck in traffic in a tweet, I can check out your virtual closet! Happy Friday!

What a fun website! And as always, your choice in shoes (and clothes) is impeccable. Happy weekend!
Comment by Nilsa S. 2008 July 18 @ 11:08 amOhmygoodness when you started talking about Cher and her plaid skirts I suddenly got a flash back to about 6th grade with you and Erika wearing matching black and white plaid long-sleeved flannel shirts. It must have been a favorite outfit of yours because it is there, very vividly in my memory….
And yes, I wept over wanting that closet.
Comment by Megs 2008 July 18 @ 12:35 pmI checked that site out a while ago from a tip from a friend, never did get around actually playing there though. But this sounds like fun! I especially like your choice of handbag:)
Myself I’m going to play a very actual what-to-wear now, since I’m packing for a holiday and on the one hand I want to scale down – room for shopping… – on the other hand it’s just no darn fun if you’re missing something “essential” when away and washing up isn’t possible…
Happy weekend!
Comment by Pia 2008 July 18 @ 1:06 pmThat’s funny, you and I wrote the same post today! Except that yours is a lot more shiny and high-tech than mine.
Comment by Jess 2008 July 18 @ 1:21 pmI think every single girl who ever watched Clueless wanted that closet!
Comment by Allie 2008 July 18 @ 4:07 pmThat site is SUCH a great idea! I’m hooked without even going there yet!
I really wanted that closet, I admit. And now I’m off to check out this site…

Pingback by polyvore 2008 July 20 @ 11:19 amI absolutely coveted Cher’s closet…although I’ve moved on from wanting to dress like her.
Off to check this out right now!
Comment by Erin 2008 July 20 @ 12:49 pmI used to play with my mom’s 60s Barbie dolls when I was a kid and they had a FABULOUS grey wool pencil skirt / orange twinset outfit. Ever since, I’ve LOVED the grey-orange combo!
Why don’t I have a grown up version of that Barbie outfit by now?
