This guest post from the lovely Alyndabear was supposed to go live last week…but due to some technical glitches on my part, um, well, it didn’t. So, while I am recovering from spending several hours parked on the runway–in the middle of the night–Alynda will be taking over. After a very hot shower, a very long nap, a snuggle with the much-missed Handsome and possibly a cookie, regular posting will resume with pictures, stories, and details of how I met two amazing bloggy friends on my New York adventure.
Since heidikins is cruising around New York City in her snazzy dress & sassy heels, I thought I’d come and take over her blog for a short while. A lot of bloggers have been enjoying the warmer weather and hopping all over the globe recently, and (being the nosey blogger that I am) I always like to check out what they are packing to take with them. Seeing that I have my very own trip, including New York City, booked in a few weeks time, I’m already trying to work out which bits and pieces to take along with me for the ride.
If it’s a short trip, I’ll generally do my best to avoid checking in any luggage. I quite like the idea of getting off the plane, through passport control and out into another city/country without having to wait around for the bags to be unloaded. Plus, I’m a paranoid traveller who is completely sure that my luggage has gone missing – for some reason, my bag is almost always the last one loaded onto the conveyor belt. (I’m the girl who is hovering around the baggage claim area, eyeballing the other passengers to see if they’ve taken my bag by mistake.) Cabin luggage is so, so much easier.
When it comes to packing, I go for comfort over style. I’m not a heel girl, so most of my travelling shoes are flats or joggers – stylish? Er, no. Practical? Yup! I also tend to live in jeans – and seeing how I own exactly two dresses, you can see for yourself how lacking I am in the style department. While I absolutely love seeing the funky clothes everybody else takes along travelling with them, my suitcase will almost always be full of boring ‘touristy’ clothes and shoes. As for accessories, does my watch count?
Travelling is different for everyone. Some pack heavy, others pack lightly. For my upcoming overseas adventure, I’ll be definitely going across with a half empty suitcase – because I intend to do a whole stack of bargain clothes shopping while I’m in the USA. Who knows, I might even pick up a dress or two while I’m over there!
All of these ramblings bring me to the wrap-up question: what kind of traveller are you?

I try to pack light, especially because I LOVE to bring my running gear and that takes up a ton of room. I do like to bring scarves and jewelry and stuff to jazz up neutral basics.
