Taking my lessons from the Internet and Winnie the Pooh

Hi.  Good Morning.  Happy Monday (if there is such a thing).  I don’t like to brag or boast–but I do have a blog where I talk about myself…a LOT…and so do most of you, so perhaps I don’t really need that kind of disclaimer–I took some of your advice this weekend on How To Feel Happy, and Saturday turned into one of those perfect days that you wish could happen twice a week.  Even though I was feeling a bit snuffly and cold-like, Handsome and I took off on Friday afternoon and headed north to Logan, a teeny college town at the top of the state, to visit his brother and my adorable friend Meags, who happens to be the brother’s wife.  Meags introduced Handsome & I at their wedding reception in November, and I will always think of her as part Yente…but a good kind of Yente, with great hair and super-chic make-up tips.

On Saturday morning we all headed up Logan Canyon for a little walk; my back is still a bit too achey for an actual “hike”, but I can handle a “nature walk.”

The river and some of the most gorgeous scenery I’ve seen in ages.  The last couple of weeks we’ve had tons of rain and everything is unnaturally green.  In the desert this picturesque stage usually only lasts for about a month before everything turns a dusty, droopy brown.

After a few games of Poohsticks on the bridge, we continued on our walk.  What’s that?  You haven’t heard of “Poohsticks“?  How sad for you!  It’s practically the greatest game ever invented for bridges.  Poohsticks was invented by none other than Winnie the Pooh (ok, technically A. A. Milne, but whatever), and is really quite simple.  To play you need a stream or river, a bridge, and a couple of sticks of various sizes and shapes.  You–and whomever you finagle into playing with you–drop your sticks over the bridge on the up-stream side at the same time, if your stick comes under the bridge first, you win.  Aaaaand repeat.  There really is some science and skill involved; stick size, weight, shape, the currents, the wind…all these factors must be taken into consideration.  At some point in my life I want to compete for the Poohsticks World Championship; yes, such a thing exists.  This would involve a lot of studying and practicing, and a trip to the U.K.  Shucky-darn, twist my arm, make me do it.  (But not my Poohsticks arm, no going all Tanya Harding on me at crunch time.)

Moving on, and again with the green!  I can’t help but think that this looks like it belongs in a fairy tale.  To be honest, I half-expected Gandalf to pop out from behind a tree.  (Oooh, or Aragorn…not THAT would be blog-worthy material!  Swoon!)

Baby steps, folks.  It’s all about baby steps.  (Ok, that and a kick-ass game of Poohsticks.)

Gorgeous pics! I miss my mountains.

I was all “Gandolf?” Is she referencing LOTR? A girl after my own heart for sure. And don’t get me started on Aragorn… definitely top 5 men I’d “do” under any circumstances. Of course, I want to “do” the character, which creates a problem for me and this list. Hmmm…

Glad you’re back and feeling better :) !

What a GORGEOUS walk. That happy-maker trumps any suggestion I could have offered up.

Hope this week is going better, dear.
