Martha Stewart, Here I come!

Filed under: Domestically Dormant (?), Project Runway

Yesterday my family threw a massive triple-decker birthday party for me, my twin sister and my AWESOME sister-in-law.  (Happy Birthday E. & K!)  My Padre (affectionately called “Lurch”) gave me the perfect birthday present; and I only had to drop one teensy little hint.

I am already in-love (Sorry handsome, don’t be mad.  wink wink)  Within ten minutes of my nephews ripping off the wrapping paper I already had three requests to “fix this” and “make me that” and “can you patch my crotch?”  (I swear that is a true statement, although  I will not reveal which manly-man blurted out THAT gem of a question.)  I already have about a hundred projects of my own to tinker with; curtains for the loft, snappy lime-green Euro shams for my bed, a slip-cover for that nasty-looking plaid couch.  Not to mention the notebooks full of dresses, vests and jackets that I have been sketching long before Project Runwayand Heidi Klum came to town.

I am so excited to go to the fabric store and pick out something for a fantastic shirt-dress, something else for a swanky little vest (dark gray herringbone, perhaps?), some lime-green and stripey for my next incarnation of my bedroom, and something neutralish for a sofa slipcover.  Oh, and I suppose I’ll have to find a crotch-patch for a certain someone, while I’m at it.

I am typically the anti-domestic diva; routinely claiming to be domestically defunct; or at best domestically dormant.  But, give me a month or two to figure out all those little buttons, and to scrounge up my small-but-stunning collection of Vogue patterns, and I’ll be posting pictures all over the Internets that will make Miss Martha jealous…or, rather, at least not embarrass her.

Wow! I have to ask, is there anything you can’t do heidikins? Your projects sound like a fun and interesting challenge and I cannot wait to see the finished projects! I love it!

Heidi…you have officially inspired me to get out my machine and start stitching. I haven’t sewn a project in way too long. Summer skirts here I come.

Love YA & again…Happy Birthday

Color me impressed! I can barely sew a button back on (repairs requiring needle and thread are seriously my husband’s job, one he rocks), so that machine scares me. But I am happy for you and can’t wait to see your masterpieces!

Can I be the last one to wish you a happy birthday?

Happy Birthday!

That is SO exciting. I have a sewing machine and it is great. Even though I hardly use it anymore. I still love having it.

Yay for great birthdays and creativity! I am excited to see what you cook up with your new toy!

You are amazing. You’ll post pics of your creations, right? Put my name down for a first line Heidikins design :)

I envy all people who can sew. If I could only hem my own pants, I would be so much better off in life. That or the pants-making people need to stop making all pants long enough for amazon women.

Oooh, I am so excited for you. My mom has a Bernina that she has nicknamed “Nina.” You must truly bring your new little gem into the family by giving her (or perhaps your love calls for a male name) a name!

Ooo, what a great present! I wish I could sew…

Oh what a fun present, happy birthday!

And you know you are going to get some many random hits from “patch my crotch” now, haha.

Oooh, what a great gift!

I received one for my birthday last year, and use it ALL the time.

Comment by Larissa

I love my sewing machine, but have it stashed in a corner of my tiny bedroom, so I don’t get to use it nearly as often as I’d like. Maybe someday.

Enjoy your craftiness!

Ohhh! Dude – sewing is like the ultimate domestic quality! I bow to you…and am excited to see your creations!

Comment by Andrea

What a fantastic gift! Can’t wait to see what you make!
