The Sound and the Ferry

Filed under: Handsome V, There and Back Again

The last day in Seattle, Handsome V and I decided we wanted to take a ferry ride across the Puget Sound…Ok, I decided I wanted to take a ferry ride and he was nice enough to humor me. It was cold and gray and windy, but we had a pretty good time. Basically, a ferry ride is exactly like I thought it would be; a big boat that can’t help but move slowly. I kept thinking of that episode of Grey’s Anatomy where the ferry boats crash into each other and Izzy drills into some guys head with a Black & Decker drill. Intense stuff. (I probably liked/remembered that episode because there was more of the medical drama stuff and less of the “who is sleeping with whom” stuff.)

As we were waiting for the ferry we (Handsome V and I, and the two newlyweds -his brother and a girlfriends of mine, remember we met at their wedding reception?) wandered around the wharf and found a jumping-bean fountain and a massive naval war ship. We didn’t have time to actually go onto the ship, but it was amazing how enormous that thing is! Goodness! I’ve seen Top Gun and I know that the aircraft carriers were big, but being right there next to one is a completely surreal experience! They are massive! Wowza!

We hurried to catch our ferry-boat and slowly (ever so very slowly!) pulled out into the Puget Sound. It’s a nice place, kinda gray and rainy and windy and depressing…but nice all the same.

There are some amazing homes on the shore of the Sound, and it was pretty cool to see the different styles, the little private docks the owners had built, and imagine for a minute what it would be life to live so close to water. Coming from Mountain Country, it’s always a bit fascinating to see the ocean. Granted, I think I prefer my ocean with a bit more sunshine, but this was still salt water and therefore fascinating. (Yes, I am that easy to please.)
This is what cold and happy looks like. And this is what Seattle looks like. You can see the Space Needle off to the left (tiny, vertical smudge) and then the rest of downtown to the right (several tiny, vertical smudges). I will definitely be back, there are about a million things I’d like to do in the Emerald City that we didn’t get around to doing. And because Handsome V is cute, I’ll probably bring him along. (Squee! He’s dreamy!)

I hated that episode of Grey’s and it pretty much was the thing that made me stop watching. I was hoping they’d kill off Meredith. They didn’t.

I am totally digging your new name for your man, “Handsome V…” sounds like young rapper. Me likes.

When Torsten and I were in NYC we thought about taking the Circle Line boat around the island, but they are super expensive and take so long that by the end you are totally bored. We took the Staten Island Ferry for free instead. It was really fun, and beautiful.

GAH! The photos aren’t working for me.

But would you believe that I never–in all my years of living in Seattle–took the ferry? I totally regret it!

I wanna go to Seattle…:) I think I’ve mentioned that before, but I still want to even now. Puget Sound and all. ;) Cosy pics – cough.

Ariel and I went to Seattle for a day on our honeymoon. We loved it there! What a cool city. We also took the ferry, but to Victoria. They are cool. I am glad you enjoyed your trip!

Oh how fun! Looks like a great time. And is it odd that when you said ferry in Seattle the first thing I thought of was Grey’s also, haha.

Ha, I remember Izzie’s brain drilling too. I wish Meredith really did drown, though. She bugs me. ;)

For some reason your pictures won’t load for me.. grrrr!

Okay…I must stick up for Grey’s. It’s true…I liked that episode. :) Moving on…you are HOT when you are cold and happy. Seriously, ferry boats look good on you!

I think overcast is romantic, the lighting makes the pics come out softer, and you look ssoooo smitten!

BTW, the pics come through great for me. No probs.

Sounds lurvly. A few months ago when I was still in Perth about six US navy ships, three of them HUGE, showed up in port and suddenly the city streets were full of the navy. It was quite surreal, I felt like I was on Pearl Harbour or something.

Now I see the pics too, lovely:)

Dude, you need to come back to Seattle. Soon.

And you see how there IS NO SUN?! Yeah, we never see the sun here in Seattle. It sucks.
