Filed under: There and Back Again
Saturday morning Jo and I (finally!) rolled into Boston by 10:00 am, right on schedule. Now, I would like to know how MapQuest can lead and guide two only-slightly-directionally-gifted girls from the middle of the Mountain West to the East Coast without ANY problems whatsoever, but in the last 3 miles give us an incorrect freeway exit and two one-way roads, that went the wrong one-way. Thank heavens Marci already lives in Boston and could come rescue us. She met us at the freeway and we weaved (wove? went weaving?) through insane Boston traffic to Jo’s new home.
After unpacking a little, we piled into the car (again!?! but why?!?) and headed over to Harvard Square for some lunch. Fire & Ice Mongolian Barbeque, absolute heaven and lunch at under $10 it’s a bargain! Seriously, absolutely amazing. That evening Jo wanted to finish getting settled, go pick up some furniture and make a Target run. Which, as lovely as that sounds, wasn’t exactly what I had planned.
The Water Fire thing was really cool – kind of a mix between Pirates of the Caribbean and Phantom of the Opera, somehow set in the canals of Venice. It was kind of tricky to get photos because it was so dark, but I did end up with a few really cool ones.
After spending an hour or so listening to the classical opera-like music wafting across the throngs of people, a group of people decided to wander around Providence for a little while; we had pizza, we took a private, mini-tour of Brown University and managed to crash the freshman orientation free-icecream party. So, what do you do when that happens? Pick a house and line up for ice-cream, of course!
) Classic.

I love that you crashed an ice cream party! Excellent, totally road-trippy work.

And I’m SO SORRY I didn’t warn you about mapquest and Boston. The two are entirely incompatible. Glad to hear you had a semi-native to keep you from ending up on Cape Cod!
