A Love Affair on a Saturday Night
One of the first things I did in San Francisco was visit Baker Beach, a visit I have repeated every time I have visited The City. I love the Golden Gate Bridge, I love watching the waves on the beach, I love watching the people who come to relax, I love lapsing off into my own little world with the post-card backdrop of the Bridge. Somehow the sight of this structure always amazes and calms me, I suddenly feel happier and all those little (but annoying) things in life seem less important. If the Golden Gate were single and available, I would totally go out with it. (Ahem… I mean, uh… oh, what the hell, it’s true.) On Saturday night I went to a birthday party at Baker Beach and watched the sun set over the ocean, took a ton of pictures and fell a little more in-love with my adopted hometown.

*** *** *** *** ***
At dusk, Uzi, Erica and I headed down to North Beach (aka Little Italy) for a movie-in-the-park at Washington Square. The film was called “Eight and a Half”, in Italian with subtitles – and frankly, after about an hour I was more-or-less lost and falling asleep. But just being outside, curled up in a blanket with good friends and hot chocolate, watching as the park filled up with people, listening to the city and breathing in the smell of fresh pasta from the neighborhood restaurants… it was as close to a perfect night as I think I’ve ever had. However, we had the time of our lives. The church next to the square was stunning – really, this photo doesn’t do it justice – and us girls had a blast. I feel it important to mention that we (Erica, Uzi & I) don’t usually look this wide-eyed; the flash on my camera was REALLY bright in the darkness of the park, and it took us by surprise.

I love this city, I love the friends I’ve made here and the places I’ve been able to see. I love the memories I have here. Even though I have never lived in San Francisco, I feel like I’m home when I’m there, even with the fog, and the damp-cold, and the crazies; I feel like I was always love this city, always keep a piece of it in my heart, and always return. Yes, dear friends, I am in love with San Francisco.
