Filed under: There and Back Again
There is something about roadtrips that I just love. This is probably a good thing when one takes into consideration that in less than 2 weeks I will have driven across the entire country, coast to coast, San Diego to Boston. Although, after 27 hours in the car I have to admit – I was craving a good run, something I rarely crave. We drove through some amazing scenery in Southern Utah, the mountains were full of lightening and the rain made everything look misty. Parts of Southern California, around Mission Viejo, were so dry it was hard to remember that we were in Beautiful California, it almost seemed like a scene from the Middle East or something. Very dry, very brown, very depressing. Nevada is completely depressing, with the small but well-lit blip that is Vegas. And on the way back we drove through several miles of landscape that was ravaged by forest fires and still spewing dark smoke. Wildfires are scary, and experiencing one first-hand is both terrifying and awesome at the same time. Not awesome like “totally tubular, dude!” but awesome as in filling a person with awe. Nature is so powerful, so beautiful, so terrible, all at the same time.
Irregardless, we had a great time, the 27-hours felt, well, exactly like 27-hours in a bucket-seat should feel: butt-numbing.

Damn, 27 hours in a car is serious driving. From Minneapolis to Seattle is 24 hours and I used to do it over 2-1/2 days!
