The last 24 hours I have been battling an awful case of food poisoning, at least – that’s what I think it is. Yesterday evening about 7:00 I wasn’t feeling great, I tried laying down for a while hoping that the cramps in my stomach would go away. Well, 30 minutes later I still felt like trash, and soon enough I had to start running for the bathroom and for the first time in my life I threw up for about an hour straight. It was horrible. I won’t bore/disgust you with the details, partly because that’s just gross and partly because it was indescribably awful. After about two hours I started to worry about getting dehydrated, and I really wished I could just fall asleep and make it all go away. So, I phoned up my friend Ben and asked if he’d bring me some gatorade. A few minutes later he showed up with 2 big bottles of the good stuff, and sat at the end of my bed and chatted, rubbed my back and kept telling me that it’d be ok. One more trip to the porcelain bowl and I was so exhausted I just wanted to fall asleep. And thanks to Sir Ben, I finally succeeded. He jokes that all it takes is a man in my bed and I’ll fall asleep straight away. And while he was kidding, I kind of wonder if there is some truth to that statement. I was so relieved to know that someone was there with me, and it was reassuring enough to allow my mind to relax enough to doze off.
My stomach isn’t quite so uh, acrobatic today -but I am still completely exhausted. Millions of thanks to Ben, who really is one of those knights in shining armor. He brings gatorade when I’m sick, has been known to scrape off my car when it snows and generally is proof that chivalrous gentlemen still exist. Now if only I can a) track down the individual(s) who poisoned me and b) convince Chivalrous Ben to send a lance through their elbow I’ll be in good shape.

Comment by Scrumptious Dessert 2007 May 22 @ 10:21 amBoo on the food poison, but I am with you on loving long trips. My husband and I drove from PA to Laramie, WY and from Laramie to TN. The trip was amazing and while we lived there we drove all over the state as well as Colorado. It is sooo amazing. I don’t think it is odd at all to drive. It is an astounding trip.
