Sin City & The Strip

I think I am done with Vegas. The weather was lovely, and I actually liked the conference I went to – but I am SOOOO done with Sin City. Yesterday I was walking around with Joan and Spencer (friends from SLC who were in Vegas for a wedding) and I just realized HOW MUCH of the Strip is simply outdoor porn. Of course, there are the fliers that low-wage workers try and hand you on the sidewalk, the huge billboards of the dancing-girls shows, and then there is Treasure Island. I had never seen the outdoor Pirate show at Treasure Island before – and I was kind of looking forward to it. I had heard that it was really cool, a battle between two pirate ships and they even sink one of them in the moat around the hotel/casino. So, I’m expecting Johnny Depp & Orlando Bloom type fanfare…. ummm, not so much. Granted, the one pirate ship had swarthy, burly pirate-men – but the other? Well, because this is mostly a “family friendly” blog, I will need to censor it a little bit… BUT THE OTHER SHIP WAS FULL OF HARDLY DRESSED PIRATE WHORE’S, BUMPIN’ AND GRINDIN’ AND SAYING ALL SORTS OF SEXUAL INNUENDO’S WHILE TRYING TO SINK THE NOT-SO-WHOREISH PIRATE SHIP….. it was bad. Horrible. If it was in a night club or something I wouldn’t have been surprised – but this is ON THE SIDEWALK! Of course, it was Nascar Weekend – so there were TONS of rednecks in tight pants (eww!) and free T-shirts, burping, scratching and saying how much they LOVED the show… videotaping it for their future, erm, “use.” Ick. Blech. Shudder. I love the fountains at the Bellagio hotel – but that is the only thing on the strip that isn’t, well, nasty. So, in the future – I will stay there and leave the rest of Sin City alone.
