Filed under: There and Back Again
Golden Gate Park in San Francisco has so many different attractions, it’s hard to know where to start! There are dozens of trails for running and hiking, lots of open space for picnics or frisbee, a couple of lakes that are full of ducks and geese, an archery field, horseback riding, a buffalo paddock, the Conservatory of Flowers, the Japanese Tea Gardens, an outdoor ampitheater, a couple of art museums and an authentic Dutch Windmill. I don’t know what park would be complete without a windmill. And while there wasn’t much information about it, there’s a small placque stating it was built by the settling Dutch in 1902 and restored in the 1980′s. Adam & I only spent 10 or 15 minutes here, but I absolutely loved it. There is just something so completely romantic about the building and the gardens around it. I’m sure in the spring when all the tulips come up it is absolutely stunning. And I’m sure I’ll be back to see them.

Be careful around the windmills. One of my coworkers told me once that this a pickup place for the castro types late at night.

Comment by Andrea Jolene 2007 January 17 @ 12:28 pmDear Sweet, Innocent, Andrea:
“The Castro” is the notorious gay district in San Francisco. Therefore “castro types” are, well.. you get the picture.
Sorry to have to corrupt you even further.

Comment by heidikins 2007 January 17 @ 12:31 pmHehe, I’d never heard about “castro types” either actually. Does that mean I can be innocent too?
I seriously just think it’s a shame there’s not someone with a lance running full tilt at the windmill. I must put that on my to-do list for next time I’m in CA.
Comment by Ben 2007 January 17 @ 2:11 pmOK, windmills are nice and all, castro types included or not, but if this park doesn’t have a pony, I just don’t know if it can be complete. I mean, hello, what park could make Heidi’s “places to visit” list if it doesn’t have a pony?
Comment by Miss Erika 2007 January 17 @ 6:17 pmDear Miss Erika:
Yes, they have ponies, lots and lots of them. They even have “pony crossing” signs… basically, it’s perfect. ;o)
Comment by heidikins 2007 January 19 @ 10:39 amYou could have mentioned that earlier.
